Throughout the mixture of poems within this book the author soul searches his thoughts, feelings and reactions on how the topics chosen have affected him as an individual and as a person witnessing what dementia did to a loved one. The words he has written come from a mind, body and soul weary from taking on the burdensome task of caring, but with great pleasure knowing He had the time to really give back to a father who was so much more to him. He was his teacher, his drinking buddy, his friend and his confidant, so every minute he gave back caring even though very stressful, was so fulfilling at the same time.
This is book three of the A Dementia Carer Poems series and part two which contains poems in alphabetical order from K to Z. The poems are on the topics of Dementia, Caregiving and Grief which he has written and compiled since his father’s death.

Today I received copies of my book in paperback form and was so excited I had to share a photo of them with you. I now officially feel like a published author.

17th February 2020

This week I made the jump from writing poetry as a hobby to becoming a published poet. I have self-published my debut book of poetry called A Dementia Carer Poems (Poems from the Heart for Caregivers). It can be found for sale in the Amazon marketplace online in paperback and kindle editions.

Over the last seven years I used poetry to give a voice to what I witnessed dementia doing to my father and my own sanity whilst I was his full time caregiver. I have compiled 54 of those poems in to my debut publication and used the process of choosing and editing the poems in to a book to help me through the grieving process after finally losing my father at the age of 88 due to complications linked to his dementia on 2nd June 2019.

My hope is that the poems when read help people to understand better what dementia does the the person diagnosed with it and empathise with them and their caregivers more.

I also hope that any caregivers who may read these poems understand they are not alone in their endeavours to create a safer environment for the people with a disability and that everyone at some point feels downhearted. I know what sacrifices you make each day , so please let me thank you in advance for taking the time to read my poetry and most importantly thank you for taking on the rewarding task of caregiver.

2nd June 2019

For seven years I performed the personal task of caregiver for my father who had dementia. On 2nd June 2019 my father passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at home in his own bed due to complications of the disease. In my heart I am filled with sorrow, but in my mind I am relieved. I am not relieved for myself, but for my father who I hope is in a better place where he is no longer suffering the indignity that dementia caused him.
